Ceremonies have been held across the world to commemorate the 45th anniversary of the glorious victory of Iran’s Islamic Revolution.
Celebrations took place in the Vatican, as well as the capitals of Russia, China, Japan, South Korea, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Spain, Hungary, Bangladesh, Denmark and Ireland.
Each year on the 22nd of the solar calendar month of Bahman, which corresponds with February 11, Iranians mark the overthrow of the US-backed Pahlavi regime in a popular uprising led by Ayatollah Ruhullah Khomeini, the charismatic leader of the revolution.
Less than two months after the victory of the 1979 Islamic Revolution, Iranians took part in a referendum, where more than 98 percent of eligible voters voted “yes” to the Islamic Republic as a new political system.
Additionally, a referendum was held in December 1979, when 99.5 percent of voters approved the constitution of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
