Will Trump start a war on Iran before he leaves the White House?

“Iran’s missile program is non-negotiable and US President-elect Joe Biden is well aware of that”. These are the words of Iranian President Hasan Rouhani. He is insisting on the return of the US to the nuclear deal, known as the JCPOA, signed by President Barack Obama in 2015 and illegally shredded by President Donald Trump in 2018. The JCPOA enjoys the support of Iran’s Leader Sayyed Ali Khamenei, who never ceased to consider the US untrustworthy. Sayyed Khamenei believes that the US may still be planning to attack Iran’s non-military nuclear program and its non-negotiable missile capability, as harsh US sanctions continue. The Iranian leadership is preparing the domestic front for a possible confrontation because it believes Trump -in his last month in office – could be planning to offer his last gift to Israeli Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu. Moreover, Iran considers the Arab-Israeli normalization an additional incentive for Israel to encourage Trump to hit Iran, particularly now that the enemies of the “Islamic Republic” have become more numerous and have come out into the open. Is a last minute war on Iran still possible?

Ever since the “Islamic Revolution” in 1979, Iran has lived under heavy US sanctions and failed to develop its air force. It has found a way to compensate with its missile program, building a variety of short, medium and long-range liquid and reliable fuel missiles. With foreign support, Iran managed to cover its territory with missiles that could reach between 2000 to 4000 km, locally produced.
