Trump demands Gulf countries to pay “bills” for his and Israel’s battle with Iran
What is his justification? And will these countries respond to his blackmail? And why would they refuse?
U.S. President Donald Trump suffers from a chronic diarrhoea of foolish and inconsistent utterances, setting a precedent in the history of American presidents, who previously delegated this responsibility to their spokespersons. For nearly eight months, Assad has insisted that his forces have eradicated Iran’s military presence and have complete control of the Strait of Hormuz. Large oil shipments continue to leave the strait on a daily basis, with him asserting that the US Navy has complete control of Hormuz.
We’ve heard this tired and repetitious tune about controlling the strait before, but the new and alarming statement that piqued our interest came yesterday evening during his involvement in a ceremony at a shipyard in Baltimore. He said, “Leaders of many countries in the region called him and thanked him after the American-Israeli aggression on Iran,” further stating, “I told them, When will you pay the price for that?”
Trump is referring to the leaders of Gulf states, not Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, or Sudan, whose thrones are supported by trillions of dollars in oil and gas profits. This means he will order them to pay for the American war and possibly the Israeli one as well. Perhaps for these reasons, he promotes day and night the return of commercial navigation and oil and gas exports via the strait as usual, but the reality is rather different.
Whoever began this war and caused all of this destruction, namely the United States and Israel, should bear the costs of the war from their own coffers, not the Gulf countries, which have suffered massive material losses as a result of this destructive American choice. Especially since the American bases, which cost hundreds of billions of dollars to erect in these countries and from which they conducted attacks on Iran, did not defend these countries against Iranian missile strikes.
For these logical and legal grounds, Gulf countries should not respond to the American blackmail that President Trump is preparing to use, possibly in the coming months.
- First, the American assault on Iran was entirely Israeli, with Benjamin Netanyahu and the Zionist lobbies under his command using America’s formidable strength to destroy Iran, a rising power whose nuclear and missile ambitions represent an existential threat to the Hebrew state.
- Second, American military bases in the Gulf countries, as well as Jordan, from where missiles, stealth planes (F-35), and hundreds of drones were launched to strike Iran, were heavily damaged as a result of the Iranian missile retaliation.
- Third, most Gulf countries are currently experiencing huge financial losses as a result of the eight-month suspension in oil and gas exports at prior rates, as well as the entire closing of the Strait of Hormuz and the partial closure of the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. Some of these countries have even begun borrowing from global banks to cover their budget deficits, as withdrawing cash is difficult; the majority of them have been invested in various projects, and liquidating them takes time. According to official figures, Saudi Arabia’s budget deficit for this year totalled 44 billion dollars.
Trump, who announced that he is ready to sacrifice Los Angeles and San Diego to defeat Iran, destroy it, and have America emerge victorious from the war, will not hesitate for a moment to sacrifice all the Gulf countries, or extort them financially, and force them to pay the costs of his failed war against Iran, and possibly even compensate Iran itself for the destruction and damage it has suffered, which compensation would be the first item in any final diplomatic settlement.
There is a common phrase, “With such friends, who needs enemies?” This particular saying literally relates to the Gulf countries and their American partner, Donald Trump.
