Al-Shara’s interview with Al Jazeera revealed five “shocking” aspects.
Anyone who watched Al Jazeera’s interview with “interim” Syrian president Ahmad al-Shara’a two days ago would quickly conclude that he leads “Sweden”, “Norway”, or even the island of “Bermuda” in the North Atlantic Ocean, rather than Syria, the core state in the heart of the Arab nation where Arab and Islamic empires were established and flourished for thousands of years.
Several facts raised in this interview support what we have stated, namely that “New Syria” is colourless, tasteless, and odourless, with no distinct Arab or Islamic character. These are the pieces of evidence we focused on during the interview.
-
- First, Mr Al-Shara confirmed his commitment to the concept of non-intervention in regional disputes while trying to restore the state’s function and regional stature.
- Second, we do not want Syria to become a battleground for regional disputes, including with Israel; our primary goal is to reconstruct the country and ensure domestic security.
- Third, we avoid confrontation with Israel because we have no interest in it, as if Israel were Switzerland and did not occupy roughly half of Syria, if not more.
- Fourth, according to Mr Al-Shara, we are negotiating with a group of countries to negotiate a security deal with Israel, and if this agreement is successful, it will pave the path for complete peace while preserving Syria’s right to the occupied Golan Heights.
- Fifth, we do not want to intervene militarily in Lebanon, but we support the Lebanese state’s “monopoly” over weapons and the decision of peace and war, which means we support the disarmament of “Hezbollah”.
The Umayyad state, which Mr Al-Shara raises as a model to be copied, lacked “stealth” aircraft, drones, and “Tomahawk” missiles. Its soldiers triumphed over all the empires of the time in support of the Islamic call that led it to Andalusia (800 years). Do the five points given by Mr Al-Shara accurately reflect the heritage and positions of the Umayyad empire?
Perhaps it would be useful to remind him that “Israel,” with which he wishes to avoid confrontation and achieve a security arrangement, has annexed the Golan Heights, occupied Mount Hermon and its slopes, and nearly all of southern Syria. Its forces violate Syrian sovereignty daily by military ground invasions, killing and imprisoning honourable Syrians who oppose and reject its existence. Most crucially, it occupies Palestine and the Al-Aqsa Mosque, located in the southern section of Greater Syria (the Levant), which was founded by the Umayyads. Mr Al-Shara has said nothing about it thus far, nor have most, if not all, of his media channels, which are virtually daily stormed by thousands of Israeli settlers.
Mr al-Sharaa stated that he would not intervene in Lebanon since it is not a “picnic” and would be the beginning of the end for the “new” Syria. However, by announcing his support for the position of the Lebanese authorities who normalise, negotiate, and coordinate militarily with the Israeli occupation state to restrict weapons in their hands, just as he supports their monopoly on the decision of peace and war, this practically means supporting their decision to disarm Hezbollah with the help of the Israeli army, and according to plans reached with generals in the Lebanese army in joint Israeli
These new measures, implemented by the interim Syrian president, cannot lead to the establishment of the Syrian state and its stability; rather, the exact reverse may occur, since everything he cited is a highly explosive “mine”. This is Syria, not Sweden or the tranquil Kingdom of Denmark, which did not give up a single grain of snow from its territory and sovereignty on the frozen island of Greenland and declared a firm “no” to President Donald Trump, the legitimate founding father of the “new” Syria.
