Sudan is one year into a civil war that has left millions facing starvation and displacement as the conflict rages on. The internal struggle for power between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), has displaced nearly 10 million people and killed more than 12,000 and 40% of the population is facing acute food insecurity.
Mosaab Baba, a researcher on Sudan, looks back on one year of the conflict and discusses the internal and external forces fueling the conflict.
“The RSF is an ethnic supremacy movement that’s historically been used by Khartoum to quell liberation movements.”
