‘I’ll Never Stop Fighting for My Son’: S.C. Man Dies Suspiciously in Police Custody

On October 2nd, Lavell Lane was arrested for “walking in the street” and taken to jail in Spartanburg, SC. Six hours later, at 5am, he was pronounced dead.

His mother, Beverly Lane Reese, and sister, Roxann Thomas, discuss who Lavell was and what they’re doing to get answers about circumstance of his death which authorities are refusing to disclose.

Kym Smith, organizer with the Party for Socialism and Liberation, co-founder of Soda City Bail Fund & outside liaison for Jailhouse Lawyers Speak-SC, joined the show to discuss the reputation for violence and inhumane conditions associated with the prisons and jails of South Carolina.
