For the Saudi Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Salman, to invite the Chinese President, Xi Jinping, to attend three summits with Saudi Arabia, the Persian Gulf states, and the Arab countries depicts a new direct challenge to the Americans, for whom the Kingdom has never hosted such summits except for US administrations’ sake.

Hence, changing the identity of the “guest of honor” sends a message that the Saudis are ready to replace the USA with China as a new ally if the United States continues its policy of abandoning Saudi Arabia.

During the past few days, the campaign of solidarity and wide sympathy with the Palestinian cause was remarkable on the sidelines of the FIFA World Cup organized by Qatar. Chanting for freedom for Palestine and raising Palestinian flags has become a scene that almost all stadiums, streets and mass gatherings are devoid of. Perhaps this matter came as a surprise to some who believed that the Palestinian cause had lost its luster and had become one of the marginal issues for a large segment of Arabs and Muslims.
