We often hear the Western media claim nations like Syria are “police states” and that’s why there is unrest, conflict, and even war.
But is that true? Is Syria really a “police state?”
In reality, nations like Syria have greater restrictions put in place specifically because they are facing genuine national security threats ranging from foreign-funded subversion, proxy war, and even foreign military aggression, invasion, and occupation.
I explore the history of Syria’s recent past, the fact that it has been at a state of war in one way or another since at least the 1960’s – including the occupation of its territory by nuclear-armed aggressors, and how the “openness” the West demands it create across Syrian society is really just an attempt to open more space for subversion.
