Why do we oppose moving ISIS inmates from northern Syria to Iraq? Why is America doing this?
The transfer of about 7,000 ISIS detainees from the “Al-Hol” camp in the city of Hasakah in northern Syria to Iraq, under the supervision of American forces, under the pretext of trying them before the Iraqi judiciary on terrorism charges, means, at first glance, throwing this highly explosive time bomb into the Iraqi lap, solving the problem of the presence of these individuals (24,000 in seven prisons) at the expense of Iraq, and perhaps its security and stability, as if it needed “new bombs” after it began to enjoy stability.
The senior American military leadership, which the Iraqi parliament unanimously voted to dismantle all its military bases in Iraq, and which recently closed the largest base, “Ain al-Asad”, wants to save the temporary Syrian authorities led by interim president Ahmad al-Shara and their Kurdish opponents (Syrian Democratic Forces “SDF”) from the “earthquake” of the Islamic State, which has begun to regain its strength rapidly on Syrian territory (the Tadmur operation that
We don’t know what the wisdom is behind the Iraqi authorities accepting this American “gift” and relieving President Al-Sher’s government from the burdens and bloody legacy of the “Islamic State”, especially at a time when the US and Israel may launch an aggression against Iran, which could escalate into a long and very costly regional war for the area, its security, and stability, with Iraq at the forefront.
Hasakah’s “Al-Hol” camp jails more than 3,000 foreign combatants, despite their governments’ refusal to acknowledge and punish them on their territory. Why is Iraq offering to absolve them of this responsibility, accepting the initial batch of 150 fighters, and bringing them before Iraqi judges?
Most of these “fighters”, if not all of them, regardless of their origins and nationalities, were trained, armed, and exported to the Arab region by the United States and Western countries under the “banner” of eliminating dictatorship and establishing the values of justice, democracy, and human rights. However, the real goal was to destabilise the security and stability of the countries in the region in favour of consolidating Israeli control and overthrowing or changing their national regimes.
It seems that American influence in Iraq is still strong, considering the acceptance of this step by the official Iraqi authorities and their readiness to bear any potential consequences. If America is truly keen on holding these individuals accountable and prosecuting them, why not transfer them to its territory and the Guantanamo Bay detention camp, which is specialised for this matter, as it did with the supporters of Al-Qaeda who were detained after the invasion of Afghanistan following the September 11, 2001, attack?
The American project in the new Syria is moving from one failure to another, as armed chaos threatening its security, stability, and territorial unity is emerging strongly. Indicators are confirming the crystallisation of a national resistance against this project alongside the recovery of resistance arms in Lebanon and Yemen, their steadfastness in the Gaza Strip, and President Trump’s retreat from striking Iran after an Israeli plea. As a result, the American military leadership is rushing back to Iraq to export its failure to its country and people. It is abandoning the Kurds once more, and Trump’s envoy, Tom Barak, has clearly stated to the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) that their role in overthrowing the previous Syrian regime is over, and they are not fighting “ISIS” after occupying all the oil and gas fields and the Syrian breadbasket to starve the regime and its citizens, thereby weakening and ultimately overthrowing it. And that’s what occurred.
In conclusion, we hope our people in Iraq will be cautious and not fall into American traps again and will approach the den of its venomous snakes with eyes wide open. O Allah, I have conveyed the message… O Allah, bear witness.
