This is my response as a Gazian to Dr Ahmet Davutoğlu’s

I am personally acquainted with Dr. Davutoğlu, and I am aware that he is a proponent of the majority of the regional expansionist initiatives of the contemporary Turkish state, which is led by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and the ruling Justice and Development Party. This is due to his previous roles as Foreign Minister and Prime Minister of the state. I am discussing the Turkish role, which is backed by the United States, in the effort to overthrow the Syrian regime and other Arab regimes in Egypt, Yemen, Libya, and Tunisia under the banner of the Arab Spring. Additionally, I am discussing the allocation of hundreds of billions in this context. I am not divulging a secret when I state that one of his most prominent ideas in this regard, which I heard from him, is the establishment of Friends of Syria, Tunisia, and Libya groups. These groups are funded by Arab countries and receive “legitimate” political cover from the Arab League at the request of the United States and Western European countries.

I am cognisant of the fact that Dr. Davutoğlu is currently not a member of the decision-making circle in Turkey, despite his aspiration to reintegrate, whether through the success of his current opposition bloc in the forthcoming elections or through reconciliation with his former mentor Erdoğan. Nevertheless, he continues cultivating strong relationships with the United States, France, and Britain, nations that recognise his strategic historian status and expertise in the Ottoman Empire and its Middle Eastern provinces.

We believe that Dr. Davutoğlu, as a strategic politician and historian, made several errors in proposing this alternative for post-Hamas Gaza at a critical juncture. These errors can be summarised as follows:

Initially, Dr. Oglu’s exclusive attention to the Gaza Strip, his complete disregard for the West Bank and Jerusalem, and the division between the two regions are wholly consistent with the current American proposals, whether intentionally or unintentionally. This separation may have been intentional, as Netanyahu’s annexation of the West Bank is imminent, and Trump and his administration support it. This annexation may occur following the Knesset’s upcoming vote to rename the West Bank to its “biblical” designation, “Judea and Samaria.”

Second, it is inaccurate to assert that the Ottoman Empire was the final legitimate state to govern the Gaza Strip unless Dr. Oglu regards Egypt’s administration of the strip from 1948 to 1967 as illegitimate and posits that legitimacy is exclusively attributed to the Turkish state, which he argues is a continuation of the Ottoman Empire, whose rule and legitimacy were entirely terminated with the defeat in World War I.

Thirdly, why does Dr. Oglu restrict Ottoman legitimacy to Gaza alone, disregarding the occupied Jerusalem, its Al-Aqsa Mosque, and all of present-day Palestine that Israel occupies?

Fourth: The Gaza Strip will be subject to NATO, of which Turkey is a critical member, as a result of the establishment of self-rule in the Strip under the banner of the Turkish state. Do you believe that Dr. Oğlu was aware of this point, or did he disregard it?

Fifth, will the Turkish state and NATO alliance mobilise to safeguard the sector from any future aggression by the Israeli-occupying state if Gaza is placed under Turkish authority following a popular referendum?

Sixth: Does Dr. Oglu regard the Palestinian Authority’s and Hamas’s rule over the Gaza Strip, which followed the Israelis’ expulsion and the dismantling of their settlements by force of arms in 2005, as an illegitimate rule that should be replaced by a non-Arab and non-Palestinian rule in the upcoming phase? If so, why did he present his unexpected proposal?

In summary, I would like to inform Dr. Davutoğlu, President Erdoğan, and all of our Turkish compatriots that I will be the first to demand the annexation of Palestine as a whole, not just the Gaza Strip. The first missile launched from Turkish territory as part of an attack to liberate Al-Aqsa Mosque and the other holy sites in occupied Palestine will be used to raise the Turkish flag over my home and office, thereby declaring my Ottoman identity. God is my witness to my words.
