SCOTUS Guts TPS While Core Civic, GEO, Palantir Make Millions | w/ Jesse Franzblau

“ICE’s budget is bigger than the Justice Department, the FBI, and all other federal agencies combined — and larger than around the top 10 militaries in the world… Congress gave $75 billion — then another $70 billion — with no restrictions. A blank check.”

And private prison companies are cashing it, according to Jesse Franzblau, Associate Director of Policy with the National Immigrant Justice Center. With the US Supreme Court ruling Trump can end TPS protections for more than 350,000 immigrants from Haiti and Syria, the Temporary Protected Status program looks set to die by year’s end without legal intervention.

The deportation machine is a business, and business is booming: Jesse explains why we should still be very concerned about SCOTUS’ end-of-term ruling on birthright citizenship, and what the private companies and contractors behind the US immigrant detention industrial complex stand to gain as hundreds of thousands of people are made more vulnerable to deportation by this latest blow to TPS.

Congress wrote DHS and ICE a blank check – and it’s being cashed for billions by GEO Group, Core Civic and Palantir.
