What are Trump’s options after failing in Iran?

Is the Lebanese civil war looming after Hezbollah’s sharp rejection of the “humiliating and disgraceful” Washington normalisation agreement?

We were, we are, and we will continue to reject and oppose any direct or indirect negotiations with the Israeli occupation state and any “peace” agreements or any ceasefire that results from them, not because the occupation state has never respected these agreements since it usurped Palestine in 1948, but because it is a racist settler entity that committed a genocide against our people in the Gaza Strip, with the number of its victims exceeding 75,000 innocent civilians, half of whom are children, injuring more than 200,000 others, and destroying most of the buildings and homes in the Gaza Strip. How can we build peace with, coexist with, and recognise this entity?

From this standpoint, we welcome Sheikh Naim Qassem, Secretary-General of “Hezbollah”, who delivered a statement today on the anniversary of Imam Khomeini’s death, the leader of the Iranian Islamic Revolution. In his remarks, he sharply criticised the results of direct discussions between the Lebanese government and the Israeli occupation state, which were sponsored by the United States, as absolutely unacceptable.

Most importantly, Sheikh Qassem said that these negotiations were “absurd, humiliating, and disgraceful for Lebanon, and rejected by wide segments of the Lebanese people,” since they “resulted in an agreement that reflects the American-Israeli vision for Lebanon’s future, aiming to subjugate it to the Greater Israel project, eliminate Lebanon’s strength by disarming the resistance, and existentially threaten its resistant people with extermination.”

This “official Lebanese-Israeli agreement” is a project of sedition, igniting the fuse of civil war in Lebanon, and an attempt to forcibly disarm the resistance, backed by an official Lebanese-Israeli alliance and cover to repeat the massacres of the Gaza Strip and its destruction in a new genocide war against the resistance and its base, which constitutes more than half of the Lebanese people.

“Hezbollah” is the one that holds the power on the ground. Therefore, no agreement or decision opposing it will pass, nor will it stop its resistance operations against the Israeli occupation state, which has inflicted strategic losses on the occupation state with its drones and precision missiles, and its fighters who seek martyrdom.

Faced with division, the Lebanese army will transform into another “Lahad Army”, battling the resistance under indirect or unknown Israeli directions and control. Benjamin Netanyahu, whose war minister, Israel Katz, has confirmed multiple times that Israeli forces will remain in Lebanon and will not withdraw from its south, will entangle the United States and its presidency in Lebanon militarily and politically, just as he did in Iran.

“Hezbollah” did not abandon Iran in the face of the American-Israeli aggression three months ago, and Iran will repay the favour and will not abandon it. This indicates that the attack against Iran is ongoing and may grow in the coming days, since Iran has insisted on incorporating Lebanon in any ceasefire arrangement in the Iranian war.

Donald Trump now has two options: fall into Netanyahu’s new Israeli trap in Lebanon and become embroiled in a war of attrition that will broaden its reach and involve new fronts in the Middle East. This would signal the end of the worldwide Riyadh summit, which is scheduled to begin in America in less than ten days and has already cost the US Treasury hundreds of billions of dollars. The second option is to free himself from this dependency and the Israeli impositions that come with it.

The Lebanese resistance defeated the occupying state twice, the first time in 2000, resulting in the liberation of all occupied southern Lebanon and the humiliating departure of the Israeli army on a moonless night to reduce losses. The second time occurred during the July 2006 fighting. We say it again: the third win is coming, and this time the loss will be dual, meaning it will involve America. It will cover not only the Lebanese front but also the Iranian, Yemeni, and possibly Iraqi fronts. The best is yet to come.
