Why has Netanyahu reverted to his threats to change the Iranian regime?

Why should we remind him about the 12-day conflict, its consequences, and Trump’s humiliating retreats?

Benjamin Netanyahu surprised us yesterday, Wednesday, with unexpected statements about the situation in Iran, following a noticeable hiatus in which he threatened, without explanation, that he had instructed all military and intelligence institutions to work on overthrowing the Iranian regime.

We don’t know what new information motivated Netanyahu to renew this threat. He, his troops, and planes have fought two wars against Iran to overthrow the Iranian regime. He believed that assassinating the Supreme Leader, Mr Ali Khamenei, military chiefs, and certain high-ranking officials would bring the system down. When these assassinations produced unintended consequences, the most significant of which was the emergence of new, more hardline leaders determined to continue and expand the conflict, transforming it into a regional war of attrition, he stopped threatening, and we did not hear his voice.

After failing to overthrow the Iranian regime, either through airstrikes or by betting on an internal popular revolution, Netanyahu went so far as to send audio and video messages to the Iranian people, urging them to take to the streets and promising to protect them and provide all necessary military and material support. This commitment was demonstrated by smuggling six thousand satellite phones via the “Starlink” network, allowing client gangs to communicate with one another and manage the coup revolt. However, Iranian intelligence used advanced Chinese technology to track these phones, apprehend their owners, and eliminate them one by one.

Netanyahu’s final and decisive card was to drag Trump and his army into a war against Iran to destroy the regime. However, Iranian tenacity, a robust missile response, and the destruction of American military bases in the region burnt this card and left it ineffective, putting Trump and his administration in a net from which they could only escape by leaving office and conceding defeat. This development explains his shift away from the goal of destroying the Iranian regime, as well as the absence of a demand for dismantling the Iranian nuclear programme, halting all enrichment processes, and handing over 465 kilos of highly enriched uranium. He eventually abandoned the military option and resorted to economic warfare.

The Israeli tone shifted with the failure of American intervention and the Iranian people’s rallying behind their system. While Netanyahu previously threatened to destroy Iran with the Israeli army alone, without American intervention, and to launch an immediate attack, he has now resorted to warning that his army is ready to “respond” forcefully to any Iranian attack as the possibility of Iran attacking the occupying state of Israel grows. Trump, who had threatened to wipe Iran off the map and destroy it if it retaliated against his army’s airstrikes on the island of Lark and several cities in southern Iran, swallowed his words and quickly halted his attack after Iranian missiles struck American bases in six Arab countries: Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, the UAE, and Iraq (Kurdish north). It should be mentioned that this Iranian strike did not include any American bases in Saudi Arabia, as its government refused to allow any American missiles to be launched from its land toward Iran and blocked its airspace to any American missile attacks.

Finally, we want to remind Netanyahu and all those who keep repeating their worn-out refrain that Iran has bombed the occupying state with hundreds of hypersonic and cluster warheads that destroyed most neighbourhoods and cities of Greater Tel Aviv, Haifa, Dimona, and Beersheba during the 12-day aggression in June 2025, in collaboration with the United States, where Netanyahu rushed to beg the American administration for an immediate cessation.

Netanyahu will not succeed in removing the Iranian regime, and his warnings in this regard are hollow, since the regime has grown more robust. The two governments that will fall within two months are Netanyahu’s far-right dictatorship, which will be rejected in the following elections on Tuesday, October 27, and Trump’s regime, which will undoubtedly fall in the upcoming US midterm elections in early November. The first, Netanyahu, will be imprisoned on corruption charges, while the second, Trump, will be brought down by the erosion of America’s military, political, and moral standing.
