Rafah crossing Torture
A dignified and symbolic Palestinian scene was lost amidst the hustle of two significant events… The first: the mobilisation of American fleets to “crush” Iran… And the second: the assassination of Libya’s martyr Saif al-Islam Gaddafi and the million-strong funeral to bid him farewell… What is it?
The scene at the border crossing, which was unintentionally overshadowed by the regional events that occurred in the area over the past four days, most notably Trump’s threats to crush Iran and eliminate it from the face of the earth, and his mobilization of fleets for this mission, and the assassination of the martyr Saif al-Islam Gaddafi in the city of Zintan in southwestern Libya, and his million-strong funeral, is represented in the “fake and shameful” opening of the Rafah crossing on the Egyptian border with the Gaza Strip, and the spontaneous and sincere joy of those returning to the Strip, some of whom are in wheelchairs, and the humiliations they were subjected to at the hands of the Israelis and their agents.
Let’s first focus on the joy that reflects the greatness of the Palestinian people, their miraculous attachment to their land and cause, and their heroic stance against all Israeli displacement projects supported by America. All these returnees to the Gaza Strip, who can be counted on the fingers of two hands only due to Israeli restrictions, shared a common sentiment in all their interviews and responses: the expression of their overwhelming happiness at returning to the Gaza Strip and the existence of tens, hundreds, and thousands like them, if not more, waiting. When they were asked if they would find their homes, which had been destroyed by Israel, they replied that they preferred to return and live in tents or on the rubble of their homes, despite the cold, floods, and lack of medicine and hospitals, rather than live in palaces outside the Gaza Strip.
However, examining the other perspective—the torture and insults inflicted by the Israeli army and its agents, the “Palestinian” spies—reveals a distinct narrative. To avoid exaggeration, we can simply listen to the testimonies of UN Human Rights Office members. They said that handcuffs were placed on the hands of these returnees immediately after crossing the border, their eyes were blindfolded, they were showered with insults and curses, subjected to humiliating interrogations, their meagre possessions and money were stolen, some were forced to urinate and relieve themselves in public, and they were attempted to be recruited as informants and agents for the Israeli army through financial inducements and threats, or both.
Donald Trump, the leader of the “free world” and champion of freedom, democracy, and human rights, formed the Peace Council. It included more than 21 leaders from various parts of the world, including Benjamin Netanyahu; several Arab leaders; Tony Blair, the former British Prime Minister, whose hands are stained with the blood of two million Iraqi brothers; and Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law, among others.
This council is to uphold the ceasefire and crossing opening, which it initiated and is in line with its peace plan. The council remained silent, refusing to criticise Netanyahu or demand an end to the massacres his army has carried out since the agreement’s signing. These massacres have resulted in the deaths of 500 of the sector’s sons, adding to the list of honour, pride, and dignity that already includes 75,000 victims of the genocide and ethnic cleansing wars.
The Palestinian people, who have made and continue to make all these sacrifices and martyrs, and who face all these sufferings with a strong and elevated will, cannot abandon resistance nor concede their land, homeland, and legitimate rights in submission to Israeli, American, and, unfortunately, some Arab conspiracies.
These people, some of whom return happily to a tent in the open air in the Mawasi area or to the ruins of their homes in Gaza, Rafah, Khan Younis, Jabalia, Deir al-Balah, and other central camps, will not surrender their weapons, a symbol of dignity, nobility, and self-respect. They do not want Trump’s Riviera or the transformation of the Strip into an “international tourist destination.”. They only want to live on their land, dipping their bread in salt, thyme, and olive oil, nothing more.
What kind of “Peace Council” is this that includes Netanyahu, the greatest butcher and bloodthirsty killer in history, and is chaired by Trump, who provided him with the heaviest, greatest, and most dangerous bombs in history to facilitate, execute, and test his extermination war in the occupied sector, and threatens to crush an Islamic state called Iran, and its 90 million people, in support and protection of the usurping Israeli entity?
This foam will dissipate, but the benefits for people, namely “resistance,” will remain on Earth. And victory is patience and steadfastness for an hour.
