Does Lebanon’s seizure of “Hezbollah” weaponry shipments signal Israel’s plan to disarm and incite a civil war?

Why does this military move coincide with Minister of War Katz’s visit to southern Lebanon and threat to assassinate Sheikh Naim Qassem?

The Lebanese front has entered a phase of increasing tension and heat as US President Donald Trump prepares to begin a war against Iran, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announces that his army is fully prepared to join the US military.

The Israeli occupation state is well aware that “Hezbollah” will not remain passive if a new round of American-Israeli dual aggression against Iran is launched, which explains Israel Katz, the Israeli Minister of War, leading a military delegation to the occupied border strip that included General Rafi Milo, the commander of the Israeli army’s Northern Front, and several of his aides.

During his tour, General Katz promised to assassinate Sheikh Naim Qassem, the Secretary-General of “Hezbollah”, and to deal a severe blow to the party by intensifying military operations in southern Lebanon. He stressed that the Israeli army would not retreat from the territory it had conquered in Lebanon and Syria, and that any involvement by Hezbollah in the Iranian escalation would have catastrophic consequences, including the loss of further lands in the Nabatieh region and the Litani River.

Given the circumstances and Israeli threats, the Lebanese army seized weapons shipments from Syrian territory that were bound for the resistance led by “Hezbollah”.

Mr Hassan Fadlallah, a party member in the Lebanese parliament, did not hesitate to reveal that the weaponry consignment, which included 500 kg of “TNT” explosives, was intended for the party and urged that the government hand it over. However, this government, whose army has not fired a single shot at the invading Israeli forces, categorically declined the request. The Prime Minister, Mr Nawaf Salam, responded on behalf of his government, saying that it “will deal firmly with any weapon outside the framework of legality, whether in possession or transfer.” “And transfer… and usage.”

We might understand, but we cannot comprehend, the Lebanese government’s and its president’s humiliating surrendering stance if the Lebanese army confronted the daily Israeli incursions, assassinations, killings, and destruction in Lebanon, or if their submission to Israeli negotiators in defeatist negotiation rounds in Rome and Washington resulted in binding agreements for Israel’s withdrawal from all Lebanese territory.

Unfortunately, the Lebanese authorities have become a tool for the Israeli occupation and the American “uncle” without compensation, and their role has become limited to confronting the valiant Lebanese resistance that liberated southern Lebanon in 2000, defeated the Israeli army for the first time in Arab and Islamic history, and forced it to withdraw in the July 2006 conflict. The transcript of interviews with Israeli army personnel conducted to uncover the causes of this setback verifies this truth.

The resistance has protected Lebanon and its sovereignty in the face of ongoing Israeli “aggressions” and has never hesitated to sacrifice thousands of victims to fulfil this honourable duty. It is entitled to keep every bullet it owns as long as Israel occupies and attacks. The Lebanese government’s attempt to block weapons from reaching the resistance on behalf of the Israeli army is a disgrace.

We do not hesitate to affirm that Hezbollah is entitled to fight alongside Iran in the event of a renewed American-Israeli dual aggression, and we do not hesitate to remind its adversaries that the Iranian missile bombardment of Tel Aviv, Haifa, Akka, and Ashkelon, rather than the Lebanese army, protected Lebanon and the southern suburbs in the heart of Beirut during the recent Israeli aggression.

The Israeli threat to assassinate Sheikh Naim Qassem and all other resistance commanders under his leadership will not discourage the party from entering the battle through the most obvious channels, attacking Tel Aviv, Haifa, and the remaining occupied cities. This organisation is the party that has offered martyrs’ masters such as Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah and Hashem Safieddine, among others.

This Lebanese administration, which opposes the resistance and collaborates with Israel to disarm it, does not represent Lebanon or the respectable Arab and Islamic legacy, and it will not last as long as previous regimes. The noble, resilient, and proud Lebanon will survive, while the chaff will be swept away.
