Columbia University students launched a solidarity encampment for Gaza on campus, and the ensuing crackdown on their protest sparked a nationwide student movement. One week into the historic protests, the corporate media has run wild with unsubstantiated claims that they are violent and antisemitic.
Grant Miner, a Jewish student organizer with Columbia University Apartheid Divest and the vice president of SWC UAW 2710, emphasizes that the demonstration is peaceful: “To portray it as some violent protest, let alone a violent protest against some specific group, is just ridiculous.”
Grant tells Rania and Eugene why students are holding the lawn and why Columbia University divesting from Israel is central to their demands.
