Iran War: ‘The US Only Negotiates for Surrender’ | w/ Navid Zarrinnal

At least 50 people have been killed and hundreds more wounded in ten consecutive days of US airstrikes targeting critical Iranian infrastructure, its health ministry says. Tehran has hit back, with two US soldiers killed in retaliatory strikes in Jordan and a third killed in Iraq over the weekend, bringing the total American body count to at least 17.

But Tehran-based journalist Navid Zarrinnal says Tehran maintains a clear, critical advantage:

“Even though they are weaker technologically and militarily, they still have leverage over the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has built a resistance economy for the past 47 years; it can absorb this kind of pressure on its economy much better than the US, which has to keep its own population content, but also the broader population: The US does have power over the integrated global economy in a very different way than Iran.”

That pressure – and the war map – is growing, with Yemen’s Ansar Allah declaring an embargo on Saudi shipping through Bab-el-Mandeb on Monday, meaning both ends of the Arabian Peninsula are now contested.

Zarrinnal says Donald Trump is at war with Iranian sovereignty, to which there can be no diplomatic solution – and time’s running out on his political clock.

“The way imperialism operates is that it does not negotiate for peace – it will only negotiate for surrender.”
