How Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger Took Back the Sahel
Jonis Ghedi-Alasow, director of Pan Africanism Today, joins the show to discuss the second anniversary of the Alliance of Sahel States.
The alliance between Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger formed as a result of the popular anti-colonial uprising that swept Niger in 2023.
Ghedi-Alasow discusses how AES, a counterweight to the Western-backed ECOWAS, has put the region on the path to building lasting sovereignty from Western pressure, threats of military intervention, and extremist violence.
France wanted the Sahel in chaos to strip it of wealth.
“When people fear being killed, they can’t organize against the plunder of their country’s wealth,” says Jonis Ghedi-Alasow of Pan Africanism Today
The Alliance of Sahel States is breaking that cycle.
