UK Plans to Restart Production of Artillery Barrels

▪️The announcement reported in the UK Defence Journal here, claims Sheffield Forgemasters will develop the ability to create forgings for barrels;

▪️No timeline is given, however facilities for this have long since been sold off & redeveloped, suggesting this process will be measured in many years rather than months or even 1-2 years Ukraine does not have;

▪️The reality is that much of the West’s stockpiles are trickling into Ukraine slower than it is being destroyed by Russian forces, production of new arms/ammunition is even slower;

▪️NATO Cold War doctrine of fewer but better weapons is proven flawed, restoring Cold War capabilities will not meet the need for cheap, effective, and numerous arms/ammunition;

▪️This amounts to symbolic rather than practical support, in addition to a money-making scheme for UK defense contractors;
