The US doesn’t want peace now or ever with Russia. It hasn’t been for decades, isn’t and will never be part of the plan.
Russia likely seeks to give the US an exist ramp to gracefully exit Ukraine as it collapses by pretending not to see what’s really going on, but the US taking that exit likely isn’t in the cards at this point either.
This isn’t the Cold War. The clock is ticking and the window is closing. The US sees it as all or nothing.
